About HangulKit

HangulKit is a free collection of small, practical Korean tools for people around the world who are curious about Korean: language learners, K-pop and K-drama fans, travelers, and foreigners living in Korea.

Who makes it

Hi, I'm Hanmi (한미), a native Korean speaker and the person behind HangulKit. Korean has many small rules that are easy to get wrong: when to drop 일 in front of 만, why 16 is pronounced “simnyuk”, or why the same English name can be spelled two ways. Every tool and explanation on this site is written and checked by someone who grew up speaking the language, and the code behind the tools is tested against these rules.

Why this site exists

Many Korean resources fall into one of two groups. Some are tools made for Koreans, with no romanization or English explanation. Others are articles that explain a rule but don't let you try it yourself. HangulKit puts both on one page: a tool that gives you the answer right away, and a clear explanation of why the answer is what it is.

What we care about

  • Accuracy first. Spellings follow the official rules of the National Institute of Korean Language, and romanization follows real pronunciation.
  • Plain English. Short sentences, real examples, no jargon.
  • Free and fast. No sign-up, and pages load quickly on any phone.
  • Privacy. What you type into the tools is processed in your browser and is not sent to us.
